The International Kart Federation (IKF) takes pride in its long record of achievement as a governing body for the sport of kart racing. In recognition of the need for controls over the sport, the International Kart Federation has published rules for competition since November 21, 1957. Throughout this time, the objectives of the Federation have been the same:

1. to foster strong and fair competition;
2. to provide reasonable rules for the various types of competition; 
3. to administer the competition program with impartiality, and 
4. to reduce the hazards associated with this sport.

The KIC started working on creating a process and documents to allow companies to introduce engines in 2002 the process was completed in 2004.  These homologation (official confirmation) processes were adopted by WKA, IKF and TAG USA. The concept is simple.  If an engine manufacturer or distributor introduces an engine to meet your organizations platform, the engine’s parts and components must meet the approved specifications moving forward.  This is beneficial for sanctioning bodies, engine manufacturers and importers.

In 1959, during karting’s early beginnings, Competition Karting, Inc. had its early beginnings as well. Current co-owner Dan Klutz worked for Doss & Sons of Winston-Salem, NC, and began servicing the early kart engines due to Doss & Sons’ dealer arrangements with McCulloch Chain Saws.By 1973, the karting business became large enough to open a division of Doss & Sons Saws, then known as Competition Karting Specialties.  Continue Reading »
